Frank Lloyd Wright Races T-Shirt Design

This t-shirt graphic was created at the request of a member of the Park District of Oak Park District to be considered for use in the annual Frank Lloyd Wright Races in Oak Park, IL. The shirt was to be made in mass quantities, so I needed to work within the parameters of a limited color palette and imagery to stay within the Park District’s price range. Additionally, the client asked for this piece to be reminiscent of the Prairie Style in illustration and color palette to honor the art and architectural work of Frank Lloyd Wright, the event’s namesake artist. The limitations of this project required me to break down this complicated style of art to its most fundamental visual elements. I employed a neutral-toned color palette and the use of ligatures between letterforms in this design to create sections of negative space reminiscent of Wright’s famous stained-glass pieces, which are a common source of pride and communal identity for the residents of Oak Park.
